Home schooling

Volgens mij heb ik er al eens eerder een blog aan gewijd maar misschien goed om er toch weer eens iets over te schrijven.

Ella is inmiddels 5 en weet niet beter of mama is de teacher. Ook Boaz (bijna 3) is aan het idee gewend geraakt dat als hij ‘de klas’ binnen stapt mama weg is en de teacher haar plaats heeft ingenomen. En zo zijn we al weer 9 weken op weg.

We hebben onze routine aardig gevonden en het hebben van een speciale ruimte voor school helpt enorm. Het leuke van Home schooling is dat je ook gemakkelijk de routines kunt doorbreken door het inbrengen van andere activiteiten. Zo hebben we vorige week een middag staan kokkerellen waarbij Ella bijna helemaal zelf het brood het gemixt, gekneed en gebakken.

Een week daarvoor hebben we Romeinse snacks gemaakt. Bezoekjes aan de supermarkt worden gebruikt om zelf boodschappenlijstjes te maken en alles op te zoeken en te vragen. Naast alle ‘academische vakken’ vinden zowel Boaz en Ella het heerlijk om uren met hun duplo, playmobiel, auto’s en barbies te spelen.

Altijd leuk moment tijdens de lunch is als ik Ella vraag hoe het die ochtend op school was. Met een grote glimlach kan ze mama dan vertellen wat ze bij de teacher heeft gedaan.

Binnenkort moeten we weer gaan nadenken over een creatieve en muzikale invulling voor de weken leidend naar Kerst….

Behalve druk met school vinden we gelukkig nog voldoende tijd voor andere dingen. Uitstapjes met de taxi is altijd een happening op zich. Je weet nooit hoe lang je onderweg bent en wat je onderweg zoal zult tegenkomen. Vaak gebruiken we de ritjes om leuke boekjes voor te lezen maar ook liedjes zingen doen de kids graag.

I think I spoke about the subject before but I taught it was about time to tell a bit more again.

Ella, 5 years old now, is used to the fact her mum is her teacher. Boaz (almost 3) is also getting used to it; as soon as he enters the classroom mama is gone and the teacher has arrived. And so we’re in our 9^th week of the school year. We got our routines together and having a special room as a classroom helps a lot. The good thing of homeschooling is the flexibility you have to change the routines whenever you feel like. Last week Ella and I spend an afternoon cooking. Ella did (almost) all the measuring, kneading and baking of the bread herself. The week before that we made some Roman snacks. Shopping for groceries is more fun if you cut and glue your own shopping list first.

Besides all the ‘academically skills’ the kids find enough time for hours of playing with their duplos, playmobil, cars and barbies.

It is always fun sitting down for lunch and asking Ella how school was that morning. Usually Ella will start smiling and tell her mummy all the details about what she learned that morning with her teacher.

Soon we have to start thinking about a creative and musical input for the weeks leading to Christmas.

Except school we do have time to do some other fun things. Trips on a taxi are always an adventure. You never know how long it will take or what you will see along the road. We often use those trips as story time, but the kids getting into singing songs too.
